Despite the significant cultural and ideological diversity, humans share the same units of time measurement. Calendars have already been harmonized and we register different time-zones. In fact our time perception is facing huge challenges.
Thousands-year-old trees put the notion of lifespan in another perspective
Pando is an aspen clonal colony located in Utah and it is estimated at 80,000 years old. Each of the approximately 47,000 trees in the colony is genetically identical and they have a single root system. The individual trunks are actually stems of a large single clone and they live up to 100-150 years. Scientists are annoyed Pando might not be able to reproduce itself effectively as most of the trunks are relatively old while new shoots do not last long enough. The reasons are being investigated.
The common perception on human history keeps track of cc 2,500 years, while our long-term planning skills are allegedly limited to two generations. The reported oldest human building (which already meets the definition of building instead of monument or other occupation sites, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_buildings), a passage grave located in France, was built in cc 4,850 BC. The existence of a 80,000 year-old living organism should front humanity with their lightness. In contrast, the pejorative secondary meaning of the verb „to vegetate” demonstates how arrogant a species humans are.
Gravity changes time (gravitational time dilation)
Counting over the lifetime of the planet, a clock set at the top of Mount Everest would be cc 39 hours ahead of a clock set at sea level. Time between two events elapses differently as measured by observers situated at different distances from a gravitating mass. It means that clocks far from massive bodies run more quickly than clocks close to massive bodies. (This thesis is mainly based on the observation that gravitational fields affect the speed of light.)
It is dreadful to realise that we live in an environment the complexity of which surpasses our understanding. Several world concepts have already been abolished so the prevailing one is likely to be based on some false assumptions.

My husband and I were just talking about this aspen grove last night. What a coincidence. Great post!

There are some individual trees at the age of 3,000-4000 years as well. Unbelievable.

Beautiful and it sure must be and that is nature at its best. Here in our country Mumbai they have just now cut down 10,000 trees as a new Metro underground is coming up and we are feeling so sad as citizens and cannot do a thing.

These old trees are only the remnants of the true nature. I understand that humans need space and food to live. But it is so sad to imagine the extent of destruction we have made to overpopulate this planet.

Yes absolutely and we feel like crying but are helpless and this is our plight. Anyways it is so nice to see such beautiful trees still there.

Thanks for following my posts. Am now going to read more about Pando. Thanks for the introduction!

It is very interesting. Some estimations mention even higher number as its age.

I have checked this information and please read this “Occupation sites with older human made structures such as those in Göbekli Tepe do exist, but the structures are monuments and do not meet the definition of building (which can be seen above). Many of the buildings within the list contain primarily bricks, but most importantly maintain their walls and roof. ” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_buildings

I have always been fascinated with the concept of time and that of gravitational forces. Stephen Hawking’s The universe in a nutshell is full of interesting information and is actually quite funny! I would highly recommend!

Thanks. I have read that book, it is short yet enough to demonstrate the complexity of the elements and forces.

However, I have no idea about the way those theories can be tested. For example about the meeting of two black holes. So much imagination and assumptions are needed.

This is a great post. I was mesmerized. I think it’s wonderful (not dreadful) that this complex world surpasses our understanding. It creates room for mind-blowing wonder and discovery. And what a sad place it would be if the universe was as limited to the intelligence and imagination of human beings.

You are right that the world neither should be nor can not be limited by human capabilities. 🙂 On the other hand humans have been looking for answers from the beginning just to feel a kind of safety and I am no exception either. Thank you for reading. Pandi has prompted me to share my amazement about its existence.

Common socialization degrades plants in an unjustified way. Once you look up some additional information about them, you realise they are intelligent creatures.

Wow. Pretty amazing. Where is this located in Utah?

Yes, it is quite inconceivable.
“Pando is located 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of Fish Lake on Utah’s Route 25,[9] in the Fremont River Ranger District of the Fishlake National Forest, at the western edge of the Colorado Plateau in south-central Utah, United States.”

Another sensational post. It reminded me of “The Sparrow Song” by The Seekers. I remember singing it in the infants school choir around 1977. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBMLCBwVih0
In he comments on the video, someone said they could take out Eurovision an dI second that.
Best wishes,

Dear declutterer,
As one of the more accomplished writers among the Bloggers I follow, I value your input on the short-short story “Morning Flight” that I posted in response to WordPress’s 7/21/17 Daily Post prompt “Gate”.
I know you’re busy and your time is precious, but please take a few minutes to peruse my brief post and offer feedback. It’s the first piece of completed fiction I’ve managed to produce in over 20 years. You can find it at:

Thank you very much. Take care, be well, and happy blogging,

The problem is, there are too many inconsistencies and disparities because 99% of the truth of this Earth is hidden from us . Time is a huge key. So it is obfuscated and deliberately misappropriated in order to keep the wool over our eyes.

Eastern Europe has its share of ancient forests as well! Check out the Białowieża Forest in Poland/Belarus. It may not have single organisms that are 80,000 years old, but it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. 🙂
